Microsoft introduced hardware-accelerated BitLocker to address the performance overhead of disk encryption on modern high-speed NVMe drives. This feature offloads cryptographic operations from the main CPU to dedicated crypto engines in the system-on-chip (SoC), improving performance and enhancing security.
