Google is developing native Windows 11 and Windows Subsystem for Linux support for Antigravity, its agentic development platform. The move would let Antigravity run coding agents, shell commands, builds, and file operations in Linux environments on Windows, while a separate native Windows implementation could reduce the platform’s reliance on browser-based or Electron interfaces.

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS systems can now upgrade to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS after Canonical released Ubuntu 26.04.1 on August 27. The point release gives administrators the supported LTS-to-LTS route through Update Manager or `do-release-upgrade`, without relying on the premature `-d` option.

IBM is developing a dual-architecture processor with Arm that will let the same core run z/OS and Arm-native Linux workloads concurrently on future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems. Announced at Hot Chips 2026, the design could give regulated organizations direct access to Arm’s AI and cloud-native software ecosystem without moving sensitive workloads off their mainframes.

Kubuntu Focus is funding at least three years of backported bug and security fixes for KDE Plasma 6.6, turning the desktop into the first Plasma 6 release with a dedicated long-term-support lifecycle. The “Bullet-Proof KDE Initiative” also covers the matching KDE Frameworks 6.24 and KDE Gear 25.12 components shipped with Kubuntu 26.04, and other Linux distributions can adopt the maintained versions.
