Microsoft will significantly tighten Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP) driver signing from March 2027. Drivers targeting Windows 11 25H2 or later and Windows Server 2025 or later will need validated Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) and Vulnerability Exploitability Exchange (VEX) files, while submissions will also need to target relatively modern hardware.

Microsoft will temporarily interrupt the restart-free Windows Hotpatch experience: enrolled Windows 11 and Windows Server devices must restart for both the September and October 2026 updates. The September restart is required by new security components, while October’s restart is part of the quarterly baseline update; normal hotpatching resumes in November.

Microsoft has confirmed that its August 2026.NET Framework updates can break printing and PDF/XPS export in WPF applications across supported Windows client and Server releases. The immediate workaround restores compatibility by disabling a font-handling protection added in the same security update, creating a security tradeoff for administrators.
