Compress SMB data in Windows 11 and Server 2022

One of Windows's most recently introduced features is SMB compression. This can reduce the amount of data transferred between the client and the server. Compression may now be activated for file shares or mappings, and is managed via Windows Admin Center or PowerShell.

Restrict installation of (USB) devices using Group Policy

Windows Server 2022: Comparison of editions and features

Windows Server 2022 will be available in two main editions: Standard and Datacenter. In addition, Microsoft will introduce a new edition for Azure. Windows Server Essentials will no longer be a separate SKU, and there is a new OS for hyperconverged systems.

Microsoft will not release a free Hyper-V Server 2022

Until now, with each new version of Windows Server LTSC, Microsoft released a corresponding version of the free Hyper-V Server. However, this will no longer be the case with Windows Server 2022. Instead, Microsoft now directs users to Azure Stack HCI.

Chromium-based Edge has been part of Windows 10 since 20H2. Internet Explorer (IE) is still on board, but its support ends in June 2022. If you want to replace it with a managed Edge, you will have to deal with tasks such as configuring GPOs and updates or redirecting legacy websites to IE.

Deactivate Windows 10 widget "News and interests" with Group Policy

Since Windows 10 1909, Microsoft has displayed a widget in the taskbar that shows content from MSN, such as weather or stock quotes. These "news and interests" are probably not required or desired in most professional environments. They can be deactivated via Group Policy.

Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) is back as a member of SysInternals

RDCMan is for users who need to manage many RDP connections. This tool consolidates them into groups and thus allows settings and actions to be applied to a collection of hosts. Microsoft took RDCMan off the market in 2020 because of security flaws, but it is back now as part of SysInternals.
